Significance of this Inquiry to the Field of Education
Uninterrupted, Sustained, Silent Reading programs have become fairly common in secondary schools. Such programs are often enforced at the school district level. If this is a required commitment for teachers, it is essential that we, as educators, know how to most effectively implement these programs to help our students improve their literacy and comprehension skills. Knowing the value of a USSR program also legitimizes the practice for students; I’d like to be able to explain the reasoning to my class, supported by evidence. Understanding the importance of an educational activity could potentially provide intrinsic motivation for students.
